Jamie Bartlett: Recommendations

I've a short new feature at the end of my episodes now where I ask people about their favourite podcast/tvshow/film/documentary etc. It's a good way to get a sense of people's influences even if picking a favourite is difficult to do. Here are Jamie Bartlett's recommendations.

Podcast: This American Life

Proving that Jamie’s taste in podcast listening is as good as his taste in podcast interviewee-ing he goes straight for one of the podcasting daddy’s, This American Life. the host of TALIra Glass, tells stories in his brilliant, innovative, and often-copied but never-equalled style. Apart from having a stunning range of topics TAL spawned last year’s podcast breakout success, Serial.

Podcast: The Bugle

I have to admit I’d never heard of The Bugle. Jamie also couldn’t remember the name of The Bugle. All Jamie could remember was it was the podcast with John Oliver and some other bloke (Andy Zaltzman) and that it was brilliant. Thanks to my listeners we have identified the podcast and I’m looking forward to getting a few episodes in soon. There are 160 episodes on iTunes and the average length is a manageable 35-40 mins.

Doc: The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters

I saw this doc on Netflix a few years ago and it blew my mind so I was delighted when Jamie put it forward as his documentary recommendation. The pursuit of the title of Donkey Kong world record holder drove Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell to extreme lengths. Billy makes the perfect pantomime villian and you’ll be on the edge of your seat at the end when Steve attempts to set a new world record. This doc proves that even the smallest of subjects can tell the biggest of stories.

Enjoy the recommendations and check out my chat with Jamie if you haven’t already. Dave

If you think you know anyone who’d make a great guest please let me know on twitter or facebook. Thanks. Dave.
